Oswald Sawh has been a resident of Thompson for over 33 years. He retired in 2021 as the Chief Executive Officer for the Communities Economic Development Fund (CEDF) after working for the Provincial Crown Corporation for approximately 22 years and has currently been serving as the Executive Director for the Thompson Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (TNRC) for the last 5 years.

My name is Oswald Sawh, and I am running for Mayor of the City of Thompson on October 28.
First of all, I want to take this time to acknowledge and thank all who have put forward their names, whether it’s for the Mayor, Councillor, or School Board Trustee positions.
After being off Council for 14 years, I decided to run in the by-election in the fall of 2024 for a Councillor position and now for Mayor because of the social, infrastructure, and accountability issues I have seen over a number of years.
MANAGING BEHAVIORAL ISSUES DOWNTOWN
One of my top priorities is to support the recommendation of the Public Safety Committee that includes:
We simply cannot continue to have our children, seniors and families exposed to the behaviours we are witnessing in the downtown on a day-to-day basis.
As Mayor, I will prioritize the implementation of these recommendations.
PROACTIVE INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE
Another priority is supporting proactive maintenance, the need for it to be properly planned and funded, allowing for ongoing maintenance of our existing roads and public spaces, such as the recent initiative to operationalize an Asset Management Plan.
COMPLETION OF 2023, 2024 AND 2025 CITY OF THOMPSON AUDIT STATEMENTS AND STAYING CURRENT
Another priority is getting our external financial statements current. The City of Thompson is currently 3 years behind in its audited statements – 2023, 2024 and 2025, having just completed its 2022 audit.
We need to catch up with our audited statements and stay current so we are not in the position in the future that we are in today – going into our fall elections, the residents of Thompson do not have completed audited statements for the prior 3 years, almost the entire term of this current Council, to assist them in assessing how the City of Thompson has managed its finances.
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK
Lastly, I also support bringing back Community Feedback demonstrating accountability and transparency.
Over the next 5 weeks, I encourage my fellow Thompsonites to ask candidates questions and look at their record. Two of the candidates for Mayor have been on Council for the last 12 years. I have been back now for almost 2 years.
Most importantly, I ask individuals: please get involved. In the last election, only 27% of registered voters actually voted, less than 1 in 3 Thompsonites.
No matter who you vote for, please come out to cast your ballot.
